My husband and I used Hultenius Corporation on two separate phases of our whole house remodel. We initially interviewed five or six contractors, and Derek Hultenius came out on top, both with his design ideas and cost estimates. We had to live in our house during both stages of remodel and Derek and his team made it as easy as possible, respected our privacy and cleaned up every day. Derek is a very talented designer, has great ideas and provided 3D drawings so we could visualize and make choices. We have an older house and there were some unpleasant surprises behind a few walls during demolition, but Derek took it in stride and helped us keep calm. He remodeled our master bathroom, created a small walk-in closet, added a sliding glass door in the master bedroom, reconfigured the door into the bedroom, tore out a small bathroom in the middle of the house, re-elevated step down areas so everything was on one level, added and took away several walls, redesigned our family room, moved the family room fireplace to another area (it is beautiful!), added cabinets and a giant TV space so the TV can be pulled out and rotated, and added a pantry in the kitchen. My favorite is our guest bathroom where Derek fit a shower and jacuzzi tub where one would think it was impossible. A great example of working with Derek was when I picked out a window for the guest bathroom during construction, it was installed and I hated it. Derek said "Hey, no problem, we'll fix it". We picked out a much larger window, which of course involved a lot of reframing, and it looks great. In that regard, I've heard stories of contractors and their expensive 'change orders'. Derek was always willing to make changes and only charged time and materials. We have other projects in the pipeline and will probably be working with Derek again...and again.Read More

This was not a small remodel project. There were (2) phases, per my request, that included the Master Suite, Guest Bath, Laundry and Studio. Derek was always reachable and I trusted his advice and guidance. He uses design software with 3D imaging that helped me visualize the final project. If you don't want to read my lengthy review I will sum it up with these bullet points: •Trustworthy •Finished on budget and ahead of schedule •Communication was great, Always easy to get a hold of and talk to •Always professional and friendly •Hires only the best employees and subcontractors Selecting DM Hultenius was the best decision I made for my remodel (and overall sanity). I don't plan on ever taking on a project like that again without hiring them. Derek came highly recommended and I felt it was a good fit from the first meeting. I am usually very clear with what I want but the kitchen had me stumped. I had problems describing what I wanted because I wasn't really sure. Derek took that and somehow came up with a great design. That process cemented my decision they were the right company for me. Derek was always very easy to get a hold of and talk to. He handled my moments of panic as the pro he is. All of his subcontractors were great and did quality work. I had a unique project that required DMH to install a custom made window and Derek was great about meeting with the company and calling them right away when they had questions. My one regret was I wish I had learned earlier in the project to just trust them. Before and during demo I often worried that maybe we hadn't gone over details enough or maybe I missed something and would realize it too late. I soon learned they do think of all the details I hadn’t. As stressful as it all can be I actually enjoyed the process because I knew I was in good hands with DM Hultenius Corp leading the project. Everyone at DM Hultenius is extremely nice and amazing in their own right. Dave, Richard, Arthur are all true craftsman. Karen keeps the place organized and quickly responded to my emails. Derek does a lot but I think it mostly all comes down to keeping everyone on all sides sane and happy. During remodel Karen sent me a link to an article on decorating patios. That was not part of their scope but she knew I wanted to have an updated backyard to match my new kitchen. Derek really takes the effort to get to know your style, what you like and really tries to anticipate and manage the project to tailor to you. I feel those types of thoughtful moments really set DM Hultenius apart. I could write a book with examples of how great the group has been over the last few months. I will say I had to wait a little bit to get started BUT the first time I met Derek he said "we'd love to work with you but we have a lot of projects going right now so you'd have to wait to get started." From the beginning I told Derek I would wait to get started as long as the project didn't stall once they got to me. He agreed and kept his word. I mention that not as a negative or constructive point against DMH but a warning to you. Do not skip out on using the company if you find there might be a wait. We were looking to have a total home renovation and had a few estimates submitted to us and we consulted some of the local product suppliers for referrals. During the process Derek was referred to us and we felt that the communication and working relation was the best. We never were pressured to pay any up front fees for the project design development until we all had come to an agreement on the scope of that work. He took the time to bring practical construction experience into the process that gave us many different ideas to consider. This was important because many construction groups and designers required large non-refundable fees to do any kind of design work beyond some simplistic ideas. The estimate was slightly higher for DMHultenius but the quality of work was excellent. Derek was always available for questions and made sure we were happy with every part of the job before every step was completed. He was very concerned about our happiness. All of his crew members are very professional and efficient. Last October 2015 we embarked on an addition while expecting our fourth child. Knowing this would be our permanent home for quite some time, we hired DM Hultenius.
